Donate to Support Research that Makes a Difference
Dr. Bernard Rimland founded the Autism Research Institute in 1967, to unravel the mysteries of autism and help parents improve the quality of life for their children. Dr. Rimland passed away in November 2006, and your contribution to the Institute helps us to continue his mission: to spread the message that Autism is Treatable and Recovery is Possible while conducting research that makes a difference for families living with autism today.
ARI's work relies on charitable contributions from concerned individuals and organizations. We are proud to be the only autism non-profit to be awarded the coveted 'Four Star Award" by Charity Navigator for sound fiscal management. All donations are tax deductible; ARI is a 501(c)(3) organization, Fed ID No. 95-2548452.

Options - How to Donate to the Autism Research Institute -
Here’s how you can most easily support ARI:
- Credit card, check, money order, cash, or Paypal
These 100% tax-deductible gifts are ARI's largest source of funding. You can donate online or, to send by mail, print a donation form and mail it with contributions to:

- Stocks / Bonds / Mutual Funds
Your gift of stocks, bonds or mutual funds that have appreciated can be even more than 100% tax deductible. For example, let’s say you bought $1,000 worth of stock ten years ago, and it is worth $5,000 today. If you are in the 33% bracket, by donating the stock to ARI, you not only help support the fight against autism, you also reduce your tax bill by $1,666 -- more than the original cost of the stock!
- Retirement Accounts
As part of the Pension Protection Act of 2006, if you are over the age of 70.5, you can make gifts directly from your IRA. Not only will you eliminate the need to pay any tax on the donated IRA funds (which have presumably appreciated), but these funds will never be subject to income or estate tax.
- Real estate
You may own real estate that you are considering for a charitable gift. The advantages of Property Donation are quick liquidation of assets, numerous tax breaks, and the opportunity to give a generous donation to a cause you believe in. Your financial advisor can provide you with additional information and the forms necessary to complete your gift to ARI.
- Charitable Annuities
This is a lesser-known way of charitable giving, in which your gift to ARI will pay you! For example, suppose you are 65 and you decide to buy a $50,000 charitable annuity, which you donate to ARI. The annuity pays 6% annually, which means you receive $3,000 a year for as long as you live. At the time of your death, the remainder goes to ARI.
When you buy a charitable annuity, you also get an immediate tax deduction. Your financial advisor can explain the details and help you decide if this is a course you want to take.
- Gifts of Life Insurance
If you have life insurance policies that have cash value but are no longer needed for their original purpose, they make excellent gifts. Gifts of life insurance are fully tax-deductible and can result in significant estate-tax savings. Your financial advisor can provide additional information.
- Wills or Living Trust Gifts
You can direct a percentage of your estate to be given to ARI. Even a 5% allocation would be generous, and would help to carry the work forward!
The Autism Research Institute thanks you for taking the time to consider the various ways you might choose to support us. Your donations support research that is bringing new treatments and new hope to autistic individuals and their families around the world -- in the words of Dr. Rimland, “Research That Makes a Difference.”
The Autism Research Institute is the only autism organization to receive a four-star rating from Charity Navigator for fiscal responsibility
