 As always, we at ARI are looking forward to a very productive year, and we continue to appreciate your support. We have posted our Accomplishments of 2008 on our website.
A new version of our main website, www.autism.com, will premier within a few weeks, with a new homepage design and a more efficient navigational structure. We'll send out an e-blast when the new site is up and running.
Save the dates: ARI is planning its 2009 Defeat Autism Now! events, including our big three-day, bi-annual conferences in Atlanta - April 16-19th and Dallas - October 8-12th, as well as two mini conferences in Oklahoma City - June 13-14th and St. Paul Sept. 12-13th.
Many families and professionals who are new to the autism community might not be aware of our quarterly, hardcopy newsletter, the Autism Research Review International (ARRI). It summarizes cutting-edge biomedical and educational research in language appropriate for both parents and professionals. If you would like us to send you a complimentary copy, please send an email to: newsletter@autism.com, with your postal address. You can also download a free copy of ARRI (.pdf) online. This is the easiest way to keep up with emerging science in this field.

The Defeat Autism Now! Conference Team
Since 1995, ARI has convened recurring meetings for carefully selected physicians, researchers, and scientists committed to finding effective treatments for autism. Their work has become known as Defeat Autism Now! ARI's Defeat Autism Now! project is dedicated to educating parents and clinicians regarding biomedically based research, appropriate testing, and safe and effective interventions for autism.
Parents and clinicians who don't regard psychotropic drugs as the best or only means of treating autistic patients will welcome this chance to learn effective strategies for addressing the medical illnesses associated with autism.

| Nutrition Seminar Premiering at Spring Defeat Autism Now! Conference in Atlanta
 In 2008, more than 700 healthcare professionals attended our Defeat Autism Now! Clinician Seminars. In our continued effort to inform even more professionals, for the first time ARI offers a two-day Nutrition Seminar at the Spring Defeat Autism Now! conference in Atlanta April 16-17.
At ARI, we believe an appropriate nutrition plan is the healthcare foundation for people on the spectrum. CEU credits have been applied for- online registration starts later this month at: www.DefeatAutismNow.com.
We are very excited about this new program, because first-rate physicians who implement the Defeat Autism Now! approach in their practice are often overwhelmed, and waiting lists can be lengthy. If more families begin treatment with a nutritionist, physicians can focus on higher-level treatments and leave the implementation of appropriate diets to specialists (few medical schools devote more than a week to the topic of nutrition; in fact, we expect many healthcare professionals will attend to learn more about this). An added benefit is that nutrition counseling is covered by most insurance plans.

In 2008, Dr. Rimland's final book was published: Dyslogic Syndrome: Why Millions of Kids Are "Hyper," Attention-Disordered, Learning Disabled, Depressed, Aggressive, Defiant, or Violent-and What We Can Do About It is a fascinating look at ADHD, learning disabilities, aggression, and depression, among other topics. ARI has a number of copies of this book, and we encourage parents to go to their local library and ask if they would like a copy of the book to add to their shelves. Interested in helping? Treating Autism Sets 2nd International Biomedical Conference for March 12-14 in Bournemouth, UK
 The 2009 conference will be the biggest autism-specific biomedical conference the UK has ever seen. With a host of expert speakers from across the globe -- as well as from the UK -- the Treating Autism team is thrilled to announce its first six confirmed speakers - Bryan Jepson, MD, Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride, Professor Boyd Haley, Dr. T Michael Culp, and Karen DeFelice. Latest news is that Dr. Andy Wakefield will be Guest of Honour, speaking at the Treating Ourselves event on the 13th of March.
The Treating Autism Team is also proud to confirm Sandy and Tim Collins as speakers. This UK family has now officially recovered their son Eddie from autism, and they will be telling delegates how they did it.
